HOME / FASTING / OMAD
Roughly 23 hours fasting and one meal. It reaches the far end of Ketosis Entry and stops just short of Fat Burning, which makes it the deepest schedule you can run every day.
The demanding part is not the fast. It is getting a day's worth of food, and particularly protein, into a single sitting.
Five stages complete and the fifth nearly finished. Push the meal an hour later and the fast crosses into Fat Burning, which is why some people run OMAD and a weekly 24 hour fast as the same habit.
The one meal
This is the whole difficulty of OMAD, and it is a nutrition problem rather than a willpower one. Struggling with this schedule usually means undereating, not overeating.
A day's protein in one sitting takes deliberate planning. Build the plate around it and add the rest afterwards.
Eating a large volume quickly after 23 hours is uncomfortable. Slower and longer works better than a single fast plate.
A fixed slot makes the day predictable and stops the fast drifting longer each time by accident.
Honest about the trade
It is the most restrictive daily schedule Burn offers. Worth being clear about who it works for.
WORKS WELL IF
You already hold a 20:4 without effort
You prefer one decision about food a day to five
Your day has one reliable slot for a long meal
You are willing to plan the meal rather than improvise it
CHOOSE SOMETHING SHORTER IF
You train hard, where recovery wants protein spread across the day
You are building or holding muscle
Meals are social and unpredictable in your week
A single restrictive meal risks a difficult relationship with food
A 16:8 you keep for a year beats an OMAD you keep for three weeks. The best schedule is the one that survives your actual life.
Running it in Burn
Twenty-three hours without food means no sodium coming in with meals. The Journal holds water, sodium, potassium and magnesium against your own targets.
One meal a day does not survive every wedding and work trip. A freeze keeps the streak honest without pretending the fast happened.
Fasting is one input alongside hydration and activity, so a good fast on a bad week still reads as a bad week.
Burn names Ketosis Entry at 18 hours and Fat Burning at 24 because a timer has to draw lines. Onset varies with your last meal, your activity, your sleep and your metabolism, and Burn does not measure ketosis, autophagy, or metabolic state.
Speak to a doctor before starting if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of eating disorders, manage diabetes, take medication timed to meals, or are under 18. Stop and eat if you feel unwell, whatever the timer says.
Burn names every stage you reach, tracks water and electrolytes alongside the fast, and keeps the streak honest with freezes.
